Sage Payroll adds direct bank transfer to cut admin time

Sage has introduced a new “Salary Payments” feature for Sage Payroll that lets employers send employee salaries directly from their linked bank account, according to PCR-Online. The update aims to help small businesses and accountants move from payroll calculations to payments in one connected workflow, reducing the need to switch between software and online banking.

The update is powered by a partnership with Crezco, which provides the Open Banking connectivity behind the service. Crezco CEO Ralph Rogge notes that the process has historically been clunky, requiring multiple platforms and taking days for funds to settle. This integration aims to make payroll payments faster and safer for SMEs.

John Evans, a business owner in North Tyneside, estimates the feature has cut his payroll processing time by around 20 percent. He previously had to manually move information into online banking and carry out multiple checks. Now, he says figures pull into his Barclays account “correctly, accurately and quickly.”

Katie Powell, VP of Venture Growth at Sage, says the update reflects a focus on removing unnecessary steps. “Running payroll should end with people getting paid,” she said. The service is now available to Sage Payroll customers.
