This page describes what SMB Tech News collects, why, and what it does not collect. It is short because the answer is “very little”.

What we collect

Our web server keeps an access log, the way every web server does: the address a request came from, the page asked for, the time, and the browser’s own description of itself.

We use that log to count how many people read each page. Before anything is stored, a visitor’s address and browser description are combined with the date and a secret value and turned into a one-way hash. The result lets us recognise the same reader twice in one day — so one person reading one page is counted once — and is meaningless the next day. We do not store your IP address.

What we do not do

• No advertising, and no advertising networks.
• No analytics service, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts watching you read.
• No cookies for tracking. WordPress may set a cookie if you log in, which only applies to us.
• No selling or sharing of anything about you, because there is nothing to sell.

Sharing buttons

The share buttons under each story are plain links. Nothing is loaded from LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Reddit, WhatsApp or Threads, and none of them learn that you visited this page unless you click through.

Photographs on this site are downloaded and served from our own domain. Your browser does not connect to any image host or avatar service while reading.

The newsletter

If you sign up for the newsletter, your email address goes to the company that sends it, and is used for nothing except sending it. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you.
